Buyer Information
We appreciate your interest in the WYO Ranch Horse & Stock Dog Sale and thank you for considering our auction in your search for a horse that fits your needs, goals, and riding ability. Our goal is to provide buyers with quality horses, honest representation, and a positive buying experience.

We strongly encourage all buyers to take the time to watch, inspect, and ask questions about any horse of interest. Visiting directly with the consignor and personally riding the horse prior to purchase is an important part of the buying process.

Choosing the Right Horse
When selecting a horse, we encourage buyers to prioritize:

• Disposition and temperament
• Rideability and training level
• Intended use (ranch work, trail riding, family use, performance, etc.)
• Your own riding ability and experience
A helpful way to think about it: if you’re looking for a dependable ranch or trail horse, consider the versatility and reliability you’d want in a pickup or ATV rather than a race car. While performance horses can be impressive, it’s important to choose a horse that matches both your skill level and intended use.

Above all, buy a horse that fits you.

Important Buyer Policy
This is not a “try-then-buy” sale. All purchases are final. Buyers are expected to complete their evaluation, including riding the horse and speaking with the consignor, prior to bidding. This policy helps protect both buyers and consignors and ensures a fair and professional marketplace.

Our Consignors
We take pride in working with reputable consignors who have a proven history of bringing safe, sound, and honest horses to our sale. Each consignor is listed with a biography and history, giving buyers insight into their background and experience.

Pre-Purchase Veterinary Examinations
Buyers are welcome to obtain a pre-purchase veterinary inspection at their own expense. Any pre-purchase exam must be completed prior to the auction.

Horses are stalled at the Original Historic Pitchfork Ranch, Z Bar T Headquarters. Buyers should contact the consignor directly to make arrangements for a pre-purchase exam either at this location or with a veterinarian near the consignor’s home.

Please note: While we do not guarantee the results of a buyer’s pre-purchase exam, all horses are covered under our Soundness Guarantee, outlined in the Guarantee Section of this page.

Guarantees

HORSES GUARANTEE

ALL GUARANTEES apply only if the sale for the horse is run through the Auction.  Be sure to come to the office to let management know you have made arrangements to purchase one of the horses that did not sell in the Ring to insure all sale GUARANTEES continue with your purchase

Each Horse sold at the WYO RANCH HORSE SALE must be guaranteed sound by the consignor.  If the horse is not considered sound, the buyer has until Tuesday following the Auction, at 12 noon to have T.J. Clark and T.J.'s veterinarian inspect the horse at the Jake Clark's MULE DAYS Location (Ralston, WY). T.J. Clark will make the final determination as to soundness of the horse. If the horse is considered unsound, the buyer will be returned his purchase price, less fees.  No Payment will be made to the consignor if the horse is considered unsound.

Each consignor will be totally responsible for guarantees they make on their animals & guarantees will be made only from the auction block while the animal is being sold. Absolutely no guarantee or warranty will be expressed or implied by the auctioneers or ring men.

SOUNDNESS does not guarantee a PrePurchase Vet Inspection. If the buyer wishes to have a Prepurchase Vet Inspection prior to the Sale, please contact the consignor and make arrangements with a vet near them or make an appointment with a vet near Meeteetse or Cody for a Vet check.  Horses are stalled at the Pitchfork Ranch Arena & Barn and the vet should contact the consignor to make arrangements for the Prepurchase Vet Inspection with a specified horse at this location or at the consignor's location.

WYO Ranch Horse Sale Soundness Guarantee is:

  • See out of both eyes clearly and correctly
  • Will be correct in the air
  • Will not crib
  • Will beat on all 4 feet soundly.

There is no implied or explicit guarantee of any horses sold at this auction that extends to replacing a horse or refunding of any monies after the Tuesday following the Auction deadline.  In other words, do not contact us 1 month later, 6 months later nor 1 year later and say there is a problem with the horse(s) and you expect compensation, it won't happen.

It is the Buyers responsibility to ride AND talk with the consignor about the animal prior to purchase....

Exception:  the only way for any refund of monies via the GUARANTEE is strictly with the animal not being sound as described above and notice given by the deadline stated above.

ABSOLUTELY "NO" Private Sales

Private sales with any WYO Ranch Horse Sale consignor are strictly prohibited, both prior to the sale and after the auction, for any horse or stock dog consigned to the WYO Ranch Horse & Stock Dog Sale.

All consignors grant exclusive selling rights to Clark Management Company, Inc. for horses and stock dogs consigned to this sale. This policy ensures a fair and transparent marketplace for all buyers and consignors and protects those who have traveled and participated in the auction.

Only horses and stock dogs that are officially consigned to the WYO Ranch Horse & Stock Dog Sale are permitted on the sale premises.

Equine Insurance

Purchasing equine insurance is highly recommended for the protection of your investment.

Equine insurance may be obtained through Jones Equine Insurance Agency, Inc.. Bobby will be on-site in the sale office on sale day to assist buyers with coverage options and policy setup.

We take pride in providing buyers with a quick and efficient checkout process. Brand inspection and veterinary paperwork required for transport will be completed as promptly as possible.

Please note: Payment in full must be received for all purchases before any animals will be released from the sale grounds with proper paperwork.

Ownership, Stalling, Feeding & Pick Up

Ownership
The buyer assumes full ownership and responsibility for the animal once declared sold in the sale ring. From that point forward, the buyer is responsible for all care, feeding, and risk associated with the horse or stock dog.

Purchasing equine insurance is highly recommended.


Stalling Following the Sale
Consignor / Seller Responsibility

    • Ensure each horse has feed and water
    • Return the horse to the same stall in which it was originally stalled


Buyer Responsibility

    • Horses must be picked up no later than Monday immediately following the sale
    • If a horse is not picked up by that time, a daily stall and feed fee of $20 per day will apply
    • Buyers must notify the sale office if pickup will occur later than Monday so proper care can be maintained

Pickup / Load-Out

    • Buyers must present a paid receipt from the sale office prior to load-out
    • A Brand Inspector and Veterinarian will be on-site on sale day to complete brand inspections and issue health certificates required for transport

    Licensed and insured equine transporters can be found on the internet; equine transport, or equine transporters.

    Warranty & Conditions

    WARRANTY
    By purchasing a horse at WYO RANCH HORSE SALE, I verify that I have read the above information and hereby agree to be bound by them as well as any information listed in the WYO RANCH HORSE SALE catalog.

    I verify that after the guarantee deadline date as stated in the GUARANTEE Section, I have no recourse to expect any type of refund, any type of repayment or any type of exchange as all sales are final.

    CONDITIONS
    WYO RANCH HORSE SALE, Clark Management Company & its associates act as agents only and are not responsible for buyer/seller error or misunderstandings. All guarantees are strictly between the buyer and seller.

    In further consideration of this purchase, I agree to indemnify and defend the Clark Management Company, T.J. Clark and Amy Landrus and the WYO RANCH HORSE SALE Staff, their agents and associates, from all injury, loss of equipment, loss of animal or damages to myself, my animals or damages or injury to others or lien property from my animals, by attending this Horse Sale at the Pitchfork Ranch west of Meeteetse, Wyoming. By making payment for said horse the buyer agrees to all conditions above and acknowledges receipt of said livestock purchased from the WYO Ranch Horse Sale and Manager; Clark Management Company, Inc. and declares himself/herself owner or legal agent and acknowledges the purchase thereof at public auction for his/her account according to its usual custom.

    LIABILITY

    Buyers, sellers and spectators are cautioned to exercise care while attending the sale and enter premises at their own risk.  Clark Management Company, Inc., T.J. Clark and Amy Landrus, WYO Ranch HORSE SALE; its principals, directors, officers, agents, vendors, employees and volunteers, and each and every landowner, municipal and/or government agency upon whose property this activity may be conducted, shall not be liable for injuries sustained by anyone attending on-site at Pitchfork Ranch - Z Bar T facility for activities and any and all associated events.
